Federal Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan has said that overloading is responsible for destruction of national roads and is extremely dangerous for national economy. He said that no overloading would be allowed on motorways & highways and ordered IG Motorway Police to devise an action plan to combat overloading.

He passed these remarks while chairing a high level meeting held here on Friday which was also attended by IG NH&MP Zafar Abbas Lak, Shahid Yar Khan DIG Headquarters, AIG Log Abbas Ahsan, AIG (Estab) Ashfaq Khan and other senior officers of NH&MP and Ministry.

The Minister also ordered motorway police to initiate a welfare plan for the professional drivers. IG NH&MP said that all professional drivers were inducted in EOBI system by NH&MP and good professional drivers who have not met with an accident would be awarded financially by NH&MP at country level in every year.

The IG said that 76 Help Centers (police posts) were being established at N-5 from Karachi to Peshawar with a cost of 60 crore rupees which would facilitate the road users in any type of distress at N-5. The Minister while appreciating the project ordered to establish first Help Center at Gujar Khan which would start working at the end of this month. The IGP also informed that PEMRA has issued FM radio license to NH&MP which would be inaugurated by Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan on January 1, 2013. The IGP Zafar Abbas assured the Minister that the action against overloaded vehicles was being taken all over the country, as special measures have already been taken at Karachi toll plaza to return back overloaded vehicles.-PR
